WEG has announced the signing of contracts with Alupar for the supply of a transmission grid stabilization system for Chile.

The scope includes a solution with synchronous condensers, step-up transformers, and complete control and protection systems, startup and synchronization with the electrical grid, as well as supervision of the mechanical and electrical assembly and several auxiliary systems and services. Delivery is expected to be completed by October 2026.

The supply of the largest synchronous condensers ever produced by the company marks a milestone for WEG and opens a new market opportunity for complete systems of this kind in Latin America. "We are consolidating our position as one of the main global suppliers of energy solutions with this project. The partnership with Alupar strengthens our collaboration and paves the way for future similar projects in the region", says João Paulo Gualberto da Silva, Managing Director of Energy at WEG.

This project is part of two lots awarded to Alupar by the Chilean government in 2024—out of a total of five offered—with the aim of increasing short-circuit power in the national electrical grid. The systems will be installed at the Ana Maria and Illapa substations, located in northern Chile, in the states of Antofagasta and Atacama.
